Odyssey of the Oryx

Written by Svalbard Trek at 18:15 26/10-2018

It has been a very disappointing season thus far with just one win and one other podium.

With that in the back of our minds we headed to the Odyssey of the Oryx with high hopes of a turn around in our season. Unfortunately, our hopes were dashed before we started. Our Captain Solomon Birch ruled out of serious contention of any high GC finish having been injured in the run up to the first stage. He did pick up results after the first three stages and eventually finished 33rd 12:59 behind the eventual winner, Hagen Franz.

Despite a strong showing in the time trial from Sigurd Sande finishing 9th and the top 10 on GC beckoning for him, he ended up crawling across the line on the final stage having fallen on the unpaved roads around Windhoek. He eventually finished 32nd on GC some 12:57 behind. We can now confirm he will be out for the next few weeks following his injury.

Frank Davidsen was also injured during the tour, managing to battle on through serious injury to finish the tour but he will also be out for a considerable amount of time.

Delmar Bocook was the highest place finished in 26th, 12:11 down. He lost a considerable amount of time during stage 3 in which he fell and then suffered from a mechanical and was never in the running from that point
